# Configuration

> Environment variables read by the dashboard.

Most settings are changed in the dashboard. The few below are set when the server starts.

## Installed server

The installer writes `/opt/quasar/.env`:

| Variable | Description |
| --- | --- |
| `DOMAIN` | Root domain. The dashboard is served on `admin.<DOMAIN>`. |
| `ACME_EMAIL` | Email address used for Let's Encrypt. |
| `ADMIN_USER` | Username of the first admin account. |
| `ADMIN_PASSWORD` | Its password. Only used to create the account on first start, then removed from the file. |

To change the domain or the email, edit this file and restart the stack:

cd /opt/quasar && docker compose up -d
```

## All variables

The dashboard reads these variables at startup. Defaults suit the standard install; `docker-compose.yml` sets the paths.

| `DOMAIN` | `localhost` | Root domain. |
| `LISTEN_ADDR` | `:8080` | Address the dashboard listens on. |
| `DB_PATH` | `/opt/quasar/storage/database.sqlite` | SQLite database. The master key is stored next to it, as `master.key`. |
| `APPS_DIR` | `/opt/quasar/apps` | Application folders. |
| `BACKUPS_DIR` | `/opt/quasar/backups` | Backup archives. |
| `TRAEFIK_DIR` | `traefik/` next to `APPS_DIR` | Traefik configuration and certificates. |
| `TRAEFIK_NETWORK` | `traefik-net` | Docker network shared with Traefik. |
| `SOCKET_NETWORK` | `quasar-socket-net` | Docker network of the socket proxy. |
| `ADMIN_USER` | — | First admin account, created only if no user exists. |
| `ADMIN_PASSWORD` | — | Its password. |
| `HOST_ROOT` | `/` | Where the host file system is mounted, for disk metrics and the storage explorer. |
| `COOKIE_SECURE` | `true` | Set to `false` only for local development over plain HTTP. |
| `GITHUB_REPO` | `AymericChaverot/quasar` | Repository checked for new releases. |
| `EDGE_AUTH_URL` | `http://quasar-dashboard:8080` | Where Traefik reaches the dashboard for [password protection](/applications/protection/#password-protection). Only change it when the dashboard runs outside the standard stack. |
| `ENV_FILE` | `.env` | File to load variables from. Real environment variables take precedence. |
